Yesterday afternoon the jury returned a verdict in favor of plaintiff for $167,000 in the Utah medical malpractice trial of Burton v. Hansen (see my blog entry from two days ago). Apparently this amount represents the past medical expenses plus $100,000 in non-economic damages. The jury deliberated for just under four hours.
A Cache County jury returning a verdict against a local physician once would be shocking. Not anymore- these verdicts are becoming more common.
Utah medical malpractice attorneys involved in the case:
Plaintiff’s counsel: Brad Bearnson and Brenda Weinberg.
